Detailed description of Tangle Ridge Golf Club
Tangle Ridge Golf Club is a Public 18 hole golf course located in Grand Prairie, Texas.
The golf course at Tangle Ridge Golf Club first opened for play in 1995. The course was designed by Jeff Brauer.
The layout has the feel of a Hill Country course. There are elevation changes of more than fifty feet, gently rolling hills, and trees guarding every hole.
Tangle Ridge is a strategic course requiring the player to use every club and shot in his arsenal. The fairways are generous but poorly hit shots may find the native areas. The variety of grass and sand bunkers, creek crossings, dramatic mounding, berms, doglegs, and tree-lined roughs provide plenty of challenges.
Par for the Tangle Ridge Golf Club course is 72. From the back tees, the course plays to 6,835 yards. From the forward tees, the course measures 5,187 yards. The longest hole on the course is # 8, a par-5 that plays to 575 yards. The shortest hole on the course is # 4, a par-3 that plays to 132 yards from the back tees. A ridge runs across the middle of this kidney-shaped green which is protected on the front by a large bunker with an island of rough grass in the middle.
Watch out for # 8, a 575 yard par-5 challenge and the #1 handicap hole on the course. The easiest hole is # 12, a 168 yard par-3. #7. The course designer believed par three holes should be reachable for the average golfer. The longest par-3 at Tangle Ridge is the 189-yard seventeenth hole which is downwind and opens in the front. Anything hit left is trouble. #8, the hardest hole on the course is a par-5 where reaching the green is only half of the battle. The green is divided into three sections by two large berms. Land in the wrong section and you'll face a tough roller-coaster putt - and be glad to three-putt. #9 requires accuracy. This 152 yard par-3 has a huge three-tiered putting surface that slopes significantly from back to front. #13 at Tangle Ridge Golf Club is a 501 yard par-5 that features a downhill tee shot over rolling terrain to a dogleg left. The upper level of the left fairway allows accurate second shots to roll safely onto the semi-blind green.

Faiways were great, but greens were sub-par. Uneven grass coverage and not up to standards. Grass in first cut and in grass bunkers was too high. Very difficult to get out and sometimes even find ball. Not good for speed of play and enjoyment. Course is a real test. Some of the par 4 holes are a little long even from the whit tees. #8 is a killer, but really an enjoyable challenge.

Marshall, check-in staff, food counter guy all were great. it was HOT and found cool iced towels on 2 holes to keep us comfortable. usually only find this kind of service on private or resort courses!

The greens were not in very good shape, but that is to be expected this time of year. The parts that had already grown in showed that they will be good. The lay out was fun and challenging and I would take a foursome there without hesitation. The grill could be a bit friendlier.

Pro shop staff has a tendency to be unfriendly. They also on occasion have lost my tee time reservation. Would recommend calling and confirming your tee time before arrival. Head professional backs his staff on any complaints and is very defensive.

Very interesting layout, especially the par 5s. Number 8 and 18 give lots of options. It was 106 F the day I played and the iced towels at holes 6 and 13 were really appreciated, nice touch. The course was empty (probably due to the heat) but I found it challenging and well designed. The greens had been aerated recently but were in decent shape despite that. The overall drought in the area has dried out the turf but every course in the metroplex seems to have this problem. The drivable number 7 was a good hole. There are actually quite a few very interesting holes. Look forward to playing it gain in a bit cooler weather.
